The floor of the 2CV: parts subject to heavy wear and corrosion

When restoring a small collector’s Citroën and a 2CV in particular, certain bodyshell elements such as the floor are often among those that get damaged by time and corrosion as they are highly exposed and stressed during the use of the vehicle. Several solutions are possible depending on your budget and requirements. The most effective, but also the most expensive, is to change the entire bodyshell by choosing an original bodyshell fully restored by the 2CV Méhari Club Cassis teams or a completely new bodyshell with left or right hand drive depending on the model. The alternatives to this solution are simple.

Several options for renovating a 2CV: reinforcing or changing the floors

First of all, you can opt for the “patch” solution which is the most simple and practical to implement. This involves reinforcing the existing front floors by choosing our adaptable 2CV 1-piece or 3-piece floors which are used as “overfloors”. Positioned directly on old floors, they are mounted directly without cutting and are fastened using pop rivets. The 1-piece front floor covers the lower part of the 2CV pedal floor as well as the side floors up to the level of the seats, partially covering the rocker panels. It has a shortened version, the small front floor, which is even simpler to install since it only partially covers the pedal and side floors and does not require the front seat rails to be removed. The 3-piece “overfloor” is positioned on all existing floors of the vehicle upward on the inside of the rocker panels and is also fastened using pop rivets.
The most durable and collector-friendly solution if you don't choose a fully restored bodyshell is to simply change your floors. To do this, you will need to cut them out before welding the new floors to your 2CV bodyshell. 2 generations of 2CV floors are available depending on the vintage of your vehicle. The “old model” floors concern sedans before 1963. They are characterised by specific cut-outs at the pedal for the brake, accelerator and clutch pedals. In addition, the side floors before 1963 do not incorporate any reinforcement on the sides, as these were directly integrated into the chassis at that time. These elements are compatible with our 2CV 425CC platform delivered with its reinforcements to be welded also called “side members”.

A new generation of 2CV floors from 1963 onwards

For the post-1963 “new models”, we have two ranges of original floors which are exclusive to the 2CV Méhari Club Cassis. These are our floors with very high-quality anti-corrosion treatment by cataphoresis and our floors with anti-corrosion treatment by electro-zinc plating, which are more economical. These original ranges guarantee precise fitting without touching up, thus ensuring a minimum of labour or time spent. We also offer an even more affordable range of adaptable floors, the quality of which is lower, however, in terms of fit and finish.
